If you serve alcohol, or are responsible for an establishment that serves alcohol, Responsible Beverage certification is mandatory in the province of New Brunswick.

Responsible Beverage online training is designed to help business owners and staff (including managers, food and beverage servers, banquet servers, bartenders and security staff) deal with the risks related to serving alcohol. It helps ensure your customers’ safety by providing the knowledge and skills you need to recognize and prevent high-risk situations from occurring, and to handle them when they do arise.

Course Content

The course is divided into six learning modules:

  1. Responsibilities, risks, and liabilities
  2. The effects of alcohol
  3. Identifying potentially harmful alcohol issues
  4. Minors and identification
  5. Safety and awareness
  6. Strategies for business success

How it Works

The training takes approximately 4 hours to complete. Your progress is saved as you learn, so you don’t have to complete the course in one session; however, once you begin, you must complete the course and final exam within 30 days. You are allowed two attempts to pass the exam.

Testing & Certification

Each module ends with a review quiz to ensure you have a solid understanding of the material as you progress. The quizzes do not count toward the final grade. Once all modules have been completed, there will be a final exam. You must achieve a grade of 80% or higher to pass the course.

Upon successful completion of the final exam, you will earn a New Brunswick Responsible Beverage certification, valid for 5 years from date of issue. The certificate will be e-mailed to you once you complete the course.
