The Sustainable Tourism Award recognizes a tourism operator, business, organization, attraction, or experience in New Brunswick that demonstrates exceptional leadership and commitment to sustainable tourism practices while delivering high-quality visitor experiences.
This award celebrates those who successfully balance economic growth with environmental stewardship, cultural preservation, and community well-being. It recognizes organizations that respect and enhance New Brunswick’s natural, cultural, and aesthetic heritage while implementing responsible practices that contribute to the long-term sustainability of the tourism industry and the communities it serves.

Eligibility Criteria:
Nominees must demonstrate excellence in the following areas:
Commitment to Sustainability – Demonstrates a clear and ongoing commitment to sustainable tourism principles through policies, practices, and operational decision-making.
Environmental Stewardship – Implements responsible resource management, conservation initiatives, waste reduction strategies, or other environmentally responsible practices that minimize impacts and support ecosystem health.
Cultural and Heritage Preservation – Respects, protects, and promotes New Brunswick’s cultural, historical, and natural heritage while ensuring authentic and meaningful visitor experiences.
Community Engagement and Impact – Actively collaborates with local communities, organizations, Indigenous partners, and stakeholders to create positive social and economic benefits.
Innovation in Sustainable Practices – Develops and implements creative solutions, programs, or initiatives that advance sustainability within the tourism sector.
Responsible Visitor Experiences – Provides tourism products, services, or experiences that align with community values, environmental responsibility, and cultural significance while enhancing visitor understanding and appreciation.
To recognize and celebrate a broader range of individuals, businesses, and organizations within the community, the same recipient may not win the same award category in two consecutive years. This policy is intended to promote greater diversity among award recipients while continuing to recognize excellence, leadership, and meaningful contributions throughout the community.
Judging Considerations:
Nominees will be evaluated based on:
- Demonstrated commitment to sustainable tourism practices and long-term environmental responsibility.
- Efforts to preserve and enhance natural, cultural, and heritage assets.
- Integration of environmental, cultural, social, and aesthetic values into tourism operations and visitor experiences.
- Positive impact on local communities, ecosystems, and regional sustainability goals.
- Innovation and leadership in advancing sustainable tourism practices.
- Evidence of measurable outcomes and ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.
- Success in balancing visitor satisfaction, economic benefits, and responsible stewardship.
Ideal Recipients:
Tourism operators, accommodations, attractions, tour companies, destinations, festivals, parks, Indigenous tourism businesses, community tourism organizations, and other tourism-related enterprises that demonstrate leadership in sustainable tourism, environmental stewardship, cultural preservation, and community engagement.
Nomination Requirements:
Each nomination package must include:
- A completed nomination form.
- A written summary (max 750 words) describing the organization and how they meet the criteria for this award.
- Supporting documents (e.g., analytics reports, visuals, links to campaigns, testimonials).
- Optional: 1–2 letters of support from industry partners or clients.
