Award Overview
The Sport Tourism Award recognizes an outstanding sporting event hosted in New Brunswick that demonstrates excellence in event delivery, visitor experience, community engagement, and tourism impact while contributing to the province’s reputation as a premier sport tourism destination.
This award celebrates sporting events that attract participants and spectators from outside the host region, create memorable experiences, foster community pride, and generate meaningful economic and tourism benefits. It recognizes organizations that successfully leverage sport as a catalyst for visitation, collaboration, and long-term community development.

Eligibility Criteria:
Nominees must demonstrate excellence in the following areas:
Tourism Attraction and Visitation – Successfully attracts participants, spectators, officials, or supporters from outside the host region, contributing to visitor growth and tourism activity.
Event Excellence and Visitor Experience – Delivers a high-quality, well-organized event that provides memorable and engaging experiences for athletes, spectators, and visitors.
Partnerships and Collaboration – Demonstrates strong collaboration with local governments, tourism organizations, sport organizations, Indigenous communities, businesses, sponsors, and community partners.
Inclusivity and Accessibility – Ensures the event is welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for participants, spectators, volunteers, and community members of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Community and Legacy Impact – Creates lasting benefits for the host community through capacity building, volunteer development, sport participation, infrastructure improvements, or enhanced community pride.
Tourism and Economic Contribution – Generates measurable economic benefits and promotes New Brunswick as a vibrant destination for sport, recreation, and tourism.
To recognize and celebrate a broader range of individuals, businesses, and organizations within the community, the same recipient may not win the same award category in two consecutive years. This policy is intended to promote greater diversity among award recipients while continuing to recognize excellence, leadership, and meaningful contributions throughout the community.
Judging Considerations:
Nominees will be evaluated based on:
- Evidence of visitor attraction, including participants and spectators from outside the host region or province.
- Excellence in event planning, delivery, and overall visitor experience.
- Strength and effectiveness of partnerships and stakeholder collaboration.
- Commitment to accessibility, inclusivity, and alignment with New Brunswick’s cultural, linguistic, and environmental values.
- Demonstrated legacy outcomes and positive community impact.
- Measurable tourism and economic benefits generated by the event.
- Success in promoting New Brunswick as a destination for sport tourism and future events.
Ideal Recipients:
Local, regional, provincial, national, or international sporting events hosted in New Brunswick that demonstrate excellence in visitor experience, community engagement, tourism development, and economic impact through sport.
Nomination Requirements:
Each nomination package must include:
- A completed nomination form.
- A written summary (max 750 words) describing the event and how it meets the criterias for this award.
- Supporting documents (e.g., analytics reports, visuals, links to campaigns, testimonials).
- Optional: 1–2 letters of support from industry partners or clients.
