The Parks and Recreation Excellence Award recognizes a park, recreational facility, program, or initiative in New Brunswick that demonstrates outstanding leadership, innovation, and excellence in enhancing community well-being, visitor experiences, and sustainable tourism development.
This award celebrates organizations and communities that create welcoming, accessible, and high-quality recreational spaces and programs that enrich the lives of residents and visitors alike. It recognizes those who foster community engagement, promote environmental stewardship, and contribute to the growth of New Brunswick as an attractive destination for outdoor recreation and tourism.

Eligibility Criteria:
Nominees must demonstrate excellence in the following areas:
Community Impact and Engagement – Positively contributes to community well-being, inclusivity, and quality of life through meaningful recreational opportunities and public engagement.
Innovation and Creativity – Demonstrates innovative approaches to programming, facility management, service delivery, or the creative use of resources to meet community and visitor needs.
Environmental Sustainability and Stewardship – Implements sustainable practices, conservation initiatives, environmental education, or habitat protection efforts that support long-term environmental health.
Facility and Program Excellence – Maintains high standards of accessibility, safety, quality, and visitor satisfaction through well-managed facilities, programs, or services.
Partnerships and Collaboration – Builds strong relationships with community organizations, municipalities, Indigenous communities, tourism stakeholders, businesses, or volunteers to enhance impact and reach.
Tourism and Economic Contribution – Supports local tourism and economic development by attracting visitors, enhancing destination appeal, and creating opportunities for recreation-based travel experiences.
To recognize and celebrate a broader range of individuals, businesses, and organizations within the community, the same recipient may not win the same award category in two consecutive years. This policy is intended to promote greater diversity among award recipients while continuing to recognize excellence, leadership, and meaningful contributions throughout the community.
Judging Considerations:
Nominees will be evaluated based on:
- Demonstrated positive impact on community health, well-being, inclusivity, and engagement.
- Innovative programs, initiatives, or operational practices that enhance the user experience.
- Commitment to environmental sustainability, conservation, and responsible stewardship.
- Quality, accessibility, safety, and maintenance of facilities, programs, or services.
- Strength and effectiveness of partnerships and collaborative efforts.
- Measurable contributions to tourism, destination development, and local economic growth.
- Evidence of long-term commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
Ideal Recipients:
Public or private parks, trails, recreational facilities, outdoor recreation operators, municipalities, community organizations, and recreation programs or initiatives that demonstrate excellence in community impact, sustainability, innovation, and tourism development.
Nomination Requirements:
Each nomination package must include:
- A completed nomination form.
- A written summary (max 750 words) describing the marketing strategy and its outcomes.
- Supporting documents (e.g., analytics reports, visuals, links to campaigns, testimonials).
- Optional: 1–2 letters of support from industry partners or clients.
