Since 2000, the Tourism Industry Pioneer Award has recognized individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, and dedication in advancing New Brunswick’s tourism industry. This prestigious award celebrates those whose career-long contributions have helped shape the province’s tourism landscape, strengthened its reputation as a destination, and created lasting benefits for communities, businesses, and visitors.

This award honours individuals whose pioneering efforts, innovative thinking, and sustained commitment have left an enduring mark on the tourism industry. It recognizes leaders who have inspired others, championed growth and development, fostered collaboration, and helped position New Brunswick as a vibrant and welcoming destination over the course of their careers.

Eligibility Criteria: 

Nominees must demonstrate excellence in the following areas:

Visionary Leadership – Demonstrates exceptional leadership through bold ideas, strategic thinking, and pioneering initiatives that have influenced the direction and growth of tourism in New Brunswick.

Industry Impact and Achievement – Has made significant and measurable contributions to the development, growth, and success of New Brunswick’s tourism industry over an extended period of time.

Innovation and Advancement – Introduced innovative approaches, programs, partnerships, products, services, or initiatives that have strengthened the tourism sector and inspired positive change.

Destination Promotion and Development – Contributed substantially to enhancing the visibility, reputation, and competitiveness of New Brunswick as a tourism destination.

Mentorship and Industry Leadership – Supported the growth and development of others through mentorship, advocacy, collaboration, volunteerism, or leadership within tourism organizations and initiatives.

Legacy and Lasting Influence – Created a lasting legacy through achievements, relationships, and contributions that continue to positively influence the tourism industry beyond their direct involvement.

Judging Considerations:

Nominees will be evaluated based on:

  • Demonstrated career-long leadership and commitment to the advancement of tourism in New Brunswick.
  • Significant and lasting impact on the tourism industry at the local, regional, or provincial level.
  • Innovation, vision, and the ability to inspire growth and positive change.
  • Contributions to destination development, tourism promotion, visitor experiences, and industry advancement.
  • Evidence of mentorship, collaboration, advocacy, and support for future industry leaders.
  • Recognition and respect among industry peers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • The strength and longevity of the nominee’s legacy and ongoing influence within New Brunswick’s tourism sector.

Important Considerations

  • This award recognizes career-long achievement and industry influence, rather than a single project, initiative, or short-term accomplishment.
  • Nominees should typically have 20 or more years of meaningful contribution to New Brunswick’s tourism industry.
  • Self-nominations may be accepted; however, strong supporting documentation and evidence of industry recognition are highly encouraged.
  • The award is intended to honour individuals whose contributions have had a transformative and lasting impact on the tourism industry.

Ideal Recipients:

Tourism entrepreneurs, business owners, destination leaders, industry advocates, community champions, tourism professionals, volunteers, and other individuals whose vision, leadership, innovation, and long-standing commitment have significantly advanced tourism in New Brunswick and created a lasting legacy for future generations.

Nomination Requirements:

Each nomination package must include:

  1. A completed nomination form.
  2. A written summary (max 750 words) describing the individual and how they meet the criteria for this award.
  3. Supporting documents (e.g., analytics reports, visuals, links to campaigns, testimonials).
  4. Optional: 1–2 letters of support from industry partners or clients.
