FOUNDATIONS for Restaurant Employees
The FOUNDATIONS for Restaurant Employees program focuses on training for the restaurant industry. It is a series of short videos available in both English and French that will help restaurant owners and managers efficiently train their new employees.
Where managers, staff or restaurant owners would normally take steps to personally train every new hire, these videos can help new hires become more independent faster.
In these videos, new hires will learn:
Restaurant operations overview
- Restaurant roles
You will learn how your new role should fit within the larger restaurant structure, and how it will help contribute to the overall success of the operation
- Restaurant workflow
You will learn more about each employee’s role within the restaurant, and how everyone’s jobs work together to create a pleasant customer experience
Host role
- Responsibilities and workflow
Develop an understanding of how the host controls the flow of guests through the restaurant, and how they keep other employees informed.
- Troubleshooting
You will watch the host in action and learn helpful strategies to manage the flow of guests through the restaurant’s dining room.
Expediter role
- Responsibilities and workflow
Learn how to review prepared food before it is served by checking details on the chit, which summarizes each food order. You’ll see how the expo takes special care of guests with allergies and maintains communication among all restaurant employees.
- Restaurant workflow
You will see how the expeditor stops problems before they stop by staying in close contact with other employees, and by closely reviewing all orders as they come into the kitchen and before food is served to guests.
FOUNDATIONS for Restaurant Employees is an initiative of the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick, through the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour.
